Cat Coat Care

Cats are unique. They can be affectionate and agreeable 1 minute and then turn to bite you the next! It is important to introduce kittens to brushing and bathing(yes!) when they are very young. Exposure early in life helps tremendously with acceptance later in life.
Short fur, Medium or long- they all need to be brushed on a weekly basis. Brushing helps remove dead fur and undercoat that can become tangled and matted. Short fur can get clumpy and full of saliva, body oils and dirt. Ewww!
Monthly bathing is great for cats as it helps remove dirt, oils and dander from the coat and skin. If your cat is not agreeable to a full bath, you can try a dry shampoo formulated for cats or just get a nubby towel wet with warm water and wrap it around kitty, massaging it into the coat.
When combing and brushing, be sure to use a leave in conditioner formulated specifically for cats. Anything else could have ingredients that may be harmful if ingested while your cat licks its coat. Spray some conditioner into your hands and pet it into your cat’s fur before brushing to prevent dryness and static while grooming. Apply more as needed but do not over apply.
